Over 100 Years Of History

Waterville Country Club was founded in 1916 when a group of local businessmen purchased over 150 acres of prime real estate in Oakland, Maine. The first player to ever tee off at our club was none other than 1913 U.S. Open Champion, Francis Ouimet. The original 9-hole course was designed by our founding members and was redesigned in the 1930s by Orrin E. Smith, who worked for many years under well-known architect Donald Ross. In 1967, an additional 9 holes were built in conjunction with reworking the existing holes to give our members the 18-hole course that currently sits here today. This expansion and redesign is credited to Geoffrey Cornish.

Waterville Country Club has hosted Maine Amateur Championships more than ten times and even hosted the 2000 Men's New England Amateur Championship.

  • Dress Code
    • Our Country Club has a dress code that seeks to encourage a friendly and relaxed environment in which everyone can enjoy the course, the clubhouse and the Pro-Shop.  We depend on our members and guests to dress in good taste at all times to promote the positive atmosphere provided at the Club. In general, the following are not acceptable on the golf course: Denim of any kind or color;“cut-off”, gym, running, tennis or swimming shorts; miniskirts/short-shorts; bathing suits; tank-tops, t-shirts, spaghetti straps; any clothing with offensive wording.

Men are expected to wear collared, folded or mock, shirts and sleeves at all times.  Women may wear sleeveless, collared or collarless sleeved shirts.  Blue jeans and T-shirts are permitted in the lounge area and practice area only. We respectfully ask that members, guests and visitors comply with the Dress Code out of respect for others and not put our staff in a position where it is necessary for them to bring the policy to your attention.  If a questionable situation regarding dress code arises, the Pro-Shop staff will determine whether the attire is deemed appropriate. The club reserves the right to refuse play to anyone whose dress is found to be unacceptable.
